Damn Good Wine reviews the Dover Canyon 2001 Barbera, 2001 Syrah DeBro Vineyard and 2001 Fralich Vineyard (syrah/zinfandel blend):
"It was Sunday late afternoon and I wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for, but it was definitely a big red. I blew the dust off a couple racks downstairs and grabbed a Dover Canyon Winery Barbera. Wait… the dust is leaving my brain and the distant past is racing back. I remembered that the good folks at Dover Canyon sent us the Barbara to taste. Sounds fair enough; not a bad recollection.
So let’s begin the tasting. The only problem is that it’s now 2008 and the Barbera was a 2001 vintage. Better late than never guys? I was really enjoying this Paso Robles Barbera. It’s powerful, but not overpowering -- fruit on the nose, lots of dark berry flavor, long finish. The color is a dark burgundy. It’s full bodied and very well balanced . . . " Read more here . . .
From Froggy Food :
"And to drink we're currently enjoying a 2004 Dover Canyon Viognier. Of all the white wines we brought back from California this one has held up the best and remains a really lovely viognier. It begins strong with the flavor of pears and seems almost like it might be too sweet, but then it turns into a crisp, citrusy flavor and ends on dry note that lingers quietly on your tastebuds like dew. I highly recommend this winery if you ever find stuff by them which is highly doubtful unless you go to their website as it is a very small family run winery. Lovely stuff though."
"We had a Dover Canyon wine called "Bone Lore" at a tasting in Monterey earlier in the week, and were intrigued enough to stop on the way south. After a lunch at McPhEE'S GRILL on Main Street in Templeton (another great restaurant), we drove west toward Dover Canyon Winery.
The location is very picturesque, with orchards and vineyards on the property, a quaint farmhouse, and a modest tasting room. Dover Canyon specializes in Zinfandels. There were three whites and nine reds on the tasting list (2 of the reds were reserved for wine club members only).
Dorianne and I bought bottles of the 2004 Viognier, a very nice white wine, with tropical fruit flavors and a very nice dry finish. Only 8 barrels were produced. We also purchased some of the Bone Lore, a Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Syrah blend - smooth and very nice nose and flavor."
Our thanks to everyone who posted notes on the wines. We are glad you enjoyed them!
